Police in Elmley Castle, Worcestershire, are investigating the unexplained death of an 11-year-old girl whose body was discovered in a park. Detectives have stated they are not looking for a third party in connection with the incident.

The girl, identified locally as Miya Deamer-Jones, was reported missing around 11:20 p.m. on Sunday. Her body was later found in a park near Elmley Castle Cricket Club.

West Mercia Police confirmed that the girl's family has been informed and is being supported by specially trained officers. Investigators are working to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.

"Our thoughts remain with the girl's family and friends at what is an incredibly sad and difficult time for them," said Chief Inspector Daniel Pilkington. "We understand the death of a young girl will have caused considerable sadness and concern within Elmley Castle and the wider community."

Pilkington added that while inquiries are ongoing and police keep an open mind, "there is nothing at this stage to suggest there is any wider risk to the community." He noted that residents may continue to see officers in the area as the investigation progresses.

Dame Harriett Baldwin, the local Member of Parliament, stated she had been briefed by West Mercia Police. "My thoughts are with the family and friends of the young girl who died and I offer my support to any constituent who needs it at this difficult time," Baldwin said. She encouraged the public not to speculate on the matter and assured that the police would make a further statement once the facts are known.

Locals have expressed shock and sadness, with sunflowers left as tributes at the scene. Miya Deamer-Jones was described as a "cheeky character" and a "happy girl" by those who knew her. She was one of four sisters and lived with her mother and at least one sibling in the village. She attended Bredon Hill Academy.

Sirens were heard in the village late Sunday night, with residents only learning of the incident upon waking Monday morning. The area around the cricket nets, believed to be where the girl was found, was cordoned off by police.
