Police Dispute Claims of 'Serious Security Threat' Behind Ella Langley Concert Cancellation
Tulsa authorities state they found no credible threat but the country singer's team proceeded to cancel the show, disappointing thousands of fans.
Tulsa police have publicly stated they found no credible security threat prior to the cancellation of country singer Ella Langley's concert on Friday night, directly contradicting the artist's explanation for calling off the event.
Langley, 27, informed thousands of fans and venue staff that the show at the BOK Center was canceled due to "a serious security threat involving the safety of my fans, the venue staff, and my team." She stated the decision was made "under the advisement of local authorities, the venue, and my security team."
However, the Tulsa Police Department issued a statement on Facebook asserting, "We advised the performer's staff that we found no credible threat to the event, but they decided to cancel the performance anyway." Tulsa police captain Richard Meulenberg further clarified in a now-deleted video that police would not advise canceling an event if no credible threat was identified.
Authorities had previously responded to what they described as a "false bomb threat call" and conducted a sweep of the venue with K-9 units, finding no indication of danger.
The BOK Center released a statement acknowledging the disappointment of fans who had traveled for the show and apologized for the inconvenience. They stated that the safety and well-being of everyone involved was their priority and that additional information regarding refunds would be forthcoming.
Langley is currently on her "The Dandelion Tour" and was scheduled to perform in Lubbock, Texas, the following night. Comments on her social media post announcing the cancellation were disabled, and her representatives have not yet commented on the discrepancy.
The incident sparked debate among fans on social media, with some expressing frustration over the cancellation after traveling significant distances. Others speculated about the cause of the canceled show, with some suggesting political motivations or backlash related to resurfaced photos of Langley hunting, though one user identified as "far lefty" refuted this, stating their excitement to see Langley perform.
