Poland Detains Suspect in Alleged Assassination Plot Against PM Tusk

Polish authorities have detained an individual suspected of planning assassination attacks against Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defense Minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak-Kamysz. The arrest followed credible information received by police about potential threats.

Jacek Dobrzynski, a spokesman for the Special Services Coordinator, confirmed the suspect is a Polish national arrested in the Lower Silesia region. He described the threat as having a "strong likelihood" of being carried out, according to local media reports.

The plot was uncovered when an email containing details of the potential attacks was forwarded to the police by the State Protection Service, which is responsible for the security of government ministers. Security services convened a special meeting on Sunday to address the intelligence, with officials treating the threat as "deadly serious."

Prime Minister Tusk publicly thanked the police for their "swift and decisive action" in apprehending the suspect. Tusk has served as Poland's prime minister since 2023, having previously held the position from 2007 to 2014. He also served as President of the European Council from 2014 to 2019.
