A professional poker player has reported being hogtied and robbed of $57,000 in World Series of Poker winnings at his Las Vegas Airbnb. Jared Griener, 40, claims two individuals were waiting inside his rental on Sunday evening after he had cashed out from the tournament.
According to Griener's account on X, he returned to his Airbnb around 8 p.m. and discovered two men inside. He alleged they tackled him to the ground, hogtied him, and placed dishes on his back to alert them if he moved. Griener stated that the assailants threatened his life, prompting him to tell them the money was in his car.
He managed to escape and sought help from a neighbor, who then called 911. Doorbell camera footage showed Griener barefoot and with duct tape around his wrists asking a neighbor for assistance shortly after the alleged incident. A significant police response, including a helicopter, arrived at the scene, but the suspects were not apprehended.
Griener, who finished 218th in the World Series of Poker Main Event, earning $57,500, said he had planned to return to Los Angeles with his winnings. He described the suspects as two Black men and speculated that they knew the code to his Airbnb and had entered the property 10 minutes before his arrival. Griener believes he may have been watched during the tournament, leading the assailants to know he was leaving with a substantial amount of cash.
He reported that he was physically unharmed but described the experience as terrifying and traumatic, with all his winnings gone. Las Vegas detectives are investigating the incident and how the suspects gained access to the property. Griener has earned over $3.3 million in career live tournament winnings, according to poker database Hendon Mob.
