Pogba Calls for Man City Titles to Be Stripped Amid Appeal
The former Manchester United midfielder, now a free agent, expressed his hope that the Premier League would reclaim two titles from Manchester City during an appearance at the Singapore Grand Prix.
Paul Pogba, the World Cup winner and former Manchester United midfielder, has voiced his opinion on Manchester City's appeal against their Premier League charges. Speaking at the Singapore Grand Prix, Pogba expressed a desire for the club to relinquish two Premier League titles.
"I just hope it doesn't affect the Premier League," Pogba stated. "Hopefully we can get two titles back."
Pogba was a key player for Manchester United during the periods when the club finished second to City in the 2017-18 and 2020-21 seasons. Only the 2017-18 season falls within the timeframe of the 114 charges leveled against City for alleged financial rule breaches. The club has been accused of using 'sham' contracts and agreements to misrepresent their financial standing by approximately £900 million.
Currently a free agent after his contract with Monaco was terminated in the summer following an injury-plagued spell, Pogba is exploring various avenues for his next career move. His recent public appearances have included attending Formula One events and fashion shows, including The Business of Fashion 500 Gala in Paris with his wife Zulay. He also launched his own apparel brand, POGBA MDXCIII, last year, which aims to blend luxury and sportswear.
Pogba's career has been marked by significant highs and lows. After a successful second spell at Manchester United, his move to Monaco was intended to revive his career, particularly after serving an 18-month doping ban. The ban stemmed from a positive test for DHEA, a prohibited substance, while he was at Juventus. The suspension was later reduced, allowing him to return to professional football with Monaco, but his time there was brief, featuring in only six games before his contract was mutually terminated.
While a return to European football or a move to Saudi Arabia appears uncertain, the Major League Soccer (MLS) in the United States has emerged as a potential destination. Pogba was reportedly offered to MLS clubs in August, and he has previously held discussions with D.C. United. Inter Miami and New York City FC have also been linked with the midfielder in the past, though no concrete talks have been confirmed.
In the midst of his career uncertainty, Pogba has maintained connections within the football world. New Manchester United signing Carlos Baleba recently shared that Pogba was the first to congratulate him on his transfer, offering advice about the city and the club.
