Podcaster removed from soccer game over 'single-sex sports' t-shirt
A conservative commentator claims she was physically removed from a professional women's soccer match for wearing a shirt advocating for single-sex sports.
Conservative podcaster Karlyn Boryski, also known as "The Conservative Critic," stated she was forcibly removed from a Portland Thorns women's soccer game on October 23 after wearing a t-shirt that read "XX = Female, XY = Male." Boryski claims a group of fans with "political banners and scarves" confronted her and her companions before security intervened.
Boryski detailed the incident in a post shared online, describing how a security guard allegedly twisted her arm behind her back with significant force. "The female security guard put my arm behind my back and twisted it, which surprised me with the level of force," she wrote. Multiple security guards were then seen escorting Boryski and her group out of Providence Park.
Video footage shared by Boryski appeared to show some attendees displaying middle fingers towards her group during the confrontation. She stated that the incident occurred because of her t-shirt supporting what she termed "single-sex sports."
The Department of Justice (DOJ) has indicated that the conduct described in the incident could raise First Amendment concerns regarding viewpoint discrimination. "The conduct described appears to raise viewpoint discrimination and First Amendment questions," a DOJ spokesperson said.
