Pittman Jr., Porter Jr. Out for Steelers' Clash with Patriots
Key offensive and defensive starters ruled out due to injuries.
The Pittsburgh Steelers will be without wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. and cornerback Joey Porter Jr. for Sunday's game against the New England Patriots.
Pittman Jr., acquired in an offseason trade, has been ruled out due to a foot injury. The 28-year-old seven-year veteran missed time during training camp with an undisclosed injury. In Week 1, Pittman Jr. led the Steelers with 58 receiving yards on three receptions during their 20-13 victory over the Falcons.
Porter Jr., the team's starting cornerback, is sidelined with a back issue. He had left practice on Thursday with the injury, adding to the Steelers' defensive concerns. Porter Jr. is also reportedly in the midst of a contract dispute.
Pittman Jr.'s absence will shift targets to receivers DK Metcalf and Jaylen Warren, with tight ends Darnell Washington and Pat Freiermuth also expected to see increased action. Second-round pick Germie Bernard is also anticipated to play a larger role. Quarterback Aaron Rodgers commented earlier this month that Bernard has a good attitude and learns quickly, noting that the young receiver has avoided repeat mistakes.
The Patriots, led by quarterback Drake Maye, are coming off a 13-10 season-opening loss to the Seahawks.
