Six months after the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie from her Tucson home, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has provided an update on the ongoing investigation, emphasizing the active nature of the case and the public's potential role in providing crucial information. In a video statement, Nanos addressed the family of the 84-year-old mother of "Today" co-host Savannah Guthrie and discussed the recent release of two ransom notes investigators believe may have been written by the same individual.

Sheriff Nanos explained that the decision to release the notes was a strategic effort to solicit help from the public. "There are a number of pieces of information in these notes that just might jar someone to say, 'You know, I've heard that,' or the wording, the style of the writing," Nanos said in the interview. He acknowledged that it remains unclear if both notes originated from the same sender.

Investigators are continuing to meticulously review a vast amount of evidence, including tens of thousands of tips, videos, and forensic leads. Nanos described the investigative process as "very active" with "a lot of work ahead of us."

Authorities are urging anyone with information pertinent to Nancy Guthrie's disappearance to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI or the Pima County Sheriff's Department tip line at 520-351-4900. The investigation remains ongoing.
