A pilot miraculously survived a plane crash on Monday morning after his small jet missed a private runway and collided with the roof of a home in Fulshear, Texas. The pilot, who was the sole occupant of the Piper J3C-65 aircraft, was reportedly attempting to land at Covey Trails Airstrip around 6 a.m. when the incident occurred.
The homeowner, who was inside the residence at the time, told ABC 13 they heard a loud noise as the plane struck the house. Images from the scene showed the yellow aircraft positioned on the roof, with one tire on the structure and a wing resting on the ground near the swimming pool.
Emergency crews, including the Fulshear Simonton Fire Department, Fort Bend HAZMAT, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and local sheriff's offices, responded to the crash. Firefighters found the pilot alert but trapped in the cockpit.
Battalion Chief Ford Stein of the Fulshear Simonton Fire Department stated that securing the scene was a priority due to leaking fuel and vapors, to prevent any potential sparks or further complications. Once the area was made safe, crews were able to assist the pilot. The pilot sustained only minor injuries and was transported to Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital. Stein commented on the fortunate outcome, noting that it is uncommon for individuals to survive such crashes. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
