A female pilot flying solo died Friday morning when her light aircraft crashed near Dunkeswell Airfield in Devon. The pilot, who was in her 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Local residents reported a multi-agency response to the crash site, including ambulance services, an air ambulance, fire crews, and police. The South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust confirmed it was called to the incident near Honiton at 10:01 a.m. and dispatched a double-crewed land ambulance, an air ambulance, a hazardous area response team, and operations officers.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service sent three fire engines to the location. Devon and Cornwall Police stated that the woman's next of kin has been informed. The Air Accident Investigation Branch has also been notified and will work with police to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
Superintendent Jo Arundale appealed to the public not to speculate about the incident and requested anyone with relevant footage to contact the police by calling 101, quoting log 268 of June 26, rather than posting it online. Police extended their thoughts to the friends and family of the person involved.
