Pierce Brosnan Defends Wife Keely Shaye Smith Against Body-Shaming Trolls
The actor has consistently praised his wife, calling her 'the most beautiful woman in my eyes' and defending her against cruel online comments about her weight.
Pierce Brosnan has consistently defended his wife, Keely Shaye Smith, against online body-shaming and cruel jibes regarding her changing figure. The couple, who have been married for over 25 years, met in Mexico in 1994 and remain devoted to each other.
Brosnan, 73, has frequently lauded Smith, 63, calling her his 'North Star' and stating, "I strongly love every curve of her body." He has defended her against online trolls who have compared her appearance over the years, particularly after she embarked on a weight loss journey reported to be around 100lb (45kg) since 2020.
In 2022, following the couple's 21st wedding anniversary, a critical post about Smith's weight went viral on Facebook. Brosnan responded defending his wife, stating, "Friends offered her surgery to reduce her weight. But I strongly love every curve of her body. She is the most beautiful woman in my eyes. And also because she had our five children.
In the past, I truly loved her for her person, not only for her beauty, and now I'm loving her even more that she is my children's mother. And I am very proud of her, and I always seek to be worthy of her love."
More recently, in 2024, Smith told Vogue, "I never shy away from … my curves. I never hide in baggy clothing," a sentiment Brosnan echoed by saying, "I love my wife's curves."
Smith, a former model turned journalist, previously described Brosnan as 'captivating' when they met, noting his "mischievous sparkle in his eyes." Brosnan, in turn, called her "a great woman" and said he could not have found anyone better.
Brosnan often expresses his love for Smith on Instagram, celebrating milestones such as their anniversaries. For her 60th birthday in September 2023, he posted, "Sixty roses for my brown-eyed girl on her 60th birthday." He reminisced about their first meeting in Cabo San Lucas, adding, "Forever happy and blessed was I to be sitting there when you walked around the corner early one morning in Cabo San Lucas."
In January, fans rallied to Smith's defense after a troll posted comparison photos of the couple from 1996 and 2008, implying a negative message about marriage. Social media users praised the couple, with one commenting, "I don't get some men on X devotion to degrade Brosnan's wife. They're both happy, aging gracefully, and she was and is absolutely gorgeous."
Brosnan's devotion extends beyond his current marriage. He has spoken about how Smith has supported him through grief, particularly after the deaths of his first wife, Cassandra Harris, from ovarian cancer in 1991, and their daughter Charlotte in 2013, also from ovarian cancer. Brosnan adopted Harris's two other children, Christopher and Charlotte, from her previous relationship.
"Keely has always been kind and compassionate and encouraged me to mourn Cassie. … I suppose Keely is my North Star, always looking out for me," Brosnan told the Irish Times in 2013. He also noted to the Irish Mirror later that year how Keely had helped him through the grief for Charlotte, emphasizing the importance of their companionship and mutual liking.
The couple, who tied the knot in August 2001 in Ireland, welcomed two sons together. They recently made a rare public appearance at the Los Angeles premiere of 'Seniors' with their sons and their girlfriends.
