Pierce Brosnan and his wife, Keely Shaye Smith, are moving out of their $100 million Malibu mansion after 26 years. The couple, who have owned the Southeast Asian-inspired compound since 2000, currently split their time between the Malibu estate and a residence in Kauai, Hawaii.

Brosnan, 73, revealed to The Times that the Malibu home has narrowly escaped destruction from wildfires on several occasions, including an incident in early 2025. "We’ve been spared by the fires a few times now. But I think it’s time to move," he stated. He also expressed concerns about living on a fault line in an earthquake-prone area, noting, "We live by this body of earth’s water on a fault in a ring of earthquakes. That creates a fear."

The actor also cited the significant financial commitment required to maintain the property. "I have this beautiful house in Malibu. I have to pay the mortgage. There are school fees," Brosnan explained, adding that he has taken on acting roles he wasn't passionate about to cover expenses.

Brosnan developed the Malibu compound after purchasing two adjacent properties for a combined $7.35 million in 2000. The estate, located on Broad Beach, spans over an acre and includes two residences with a total of five bedrooms and 14 bathrooms. The main residence, known as the Orchid House, covers nearly 12,500 square feet and features a home theater, a wine cellar, a gym, a music room, and a spa. The property has reportedly been listed for sale previously, and was even advertised as a rental for $120,000 per month in 2004. In 2015, a fire caused $1 million in damages to the mansion's garage while the family was home.

Malibu has been impacted by severe wildfires, notably in January 2025, which led to the destruction of homes belonging to other celebrities. Brosnan has previously suggested that Hawaii is now considered home, telling The Wall Street Journal, "I love Malibu. It has my heart,' he added, while noting that now 'home is very much here in the islands."
