Pierce Brosnan Advises Sons on Hollywood's Rigors

Pierce Brosnan has cautioned his sons about the demanding nature of the entertainment industry, emphasizing the need for talent, discipline, and a strong work ethic as they navigate their own acting careers.

Brosnan, 73, spoke about his sons' burgeoning careers at the premiere of his youngest son Paris' new film, "Seniors." He described the business as "tough" and "capricious at times," but expressed confidence in Paris' abilities. "Paris has the strength and the stamina, he has a talent there, he's got a charisma, and he's got good sense and intuition," Brosnan told Fox News Digital. He added that his son possesses a talent that "will need to be nurtured and worked on," highlighting the discipline required to be an actor, including vocal training, physical conditioning, and continuous study.

Brosnan, who shares sons Dylan, 25, and Paris, 25, with his wife Keely Shaye Smith, also has a son Sean, 43, from his first marriage. He also adopted his late first wife Cassandra Harris' children, Christopher, 53, and Charlotte, who passed away in 2013 at 41.

He attributed his younger sons' grounded nature to the "simple life" he and Smith provided, marked by regular family dinners and active involvement in their schooling. "We kept them close," Brosnan said. "We had family dinners, drive them to school, pick them up from school. We are very close, the whole family."

Paris Brosnan stars in "Seniors" as a teenager who forms a bond with a retirement home resident, played by John Rhys-Davies. Brosnan noted his long-standing friendship with Rhys-Davies, having first met him in 1976.

Paris Brosnan described working with Rhys-Davies as a "master class" and a "full circle moment," referencing his father's early career connections. He explained that his father's advice was not to discourage him, but to ensure he pursued acting only if he had a genuine passion for it. "Unless you love it and you want it then don't pursue it … just because it's on the table," Paris recalled his father saying.

Rhys-Davies commented that while he sees some similarities between father and son, Paris is forging his own path. "I think this man is already his own man," Rhys-Davies stated. "What I see is a vulnerability and an innocence and a willingness...an openness to evolve, adapt, and become. He's still defining what he really is and what he wants."

"Seniors" is slated for release in select U.S. theaters on October 23.
