England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford and his partner Megan experienced a disruption to their private jet trip to Paris over the weekend due to widespread riots in the French capital. The couple had traveled to see singer Celine Dion perform, with Megan documenting the short break in a TikTok video.

In the video, Megan noted their initial lack of awareness about the unfolding events, with a caption stating, 'Come to Paris with me and my husband. Completely unaware the capital was in ruins.' The trip appears to have taken place after Pickford's club match on Saturday afternoon, with the couple returning to the UK on Sunday.

The riots, which began as a peaceful protest against the rising cost of living and public service issues, escalated into violence. Reports indicate that approximately 1,500 shops and businesses were looted and damaged, leading to the deployment of riot police who used tear gas and water cannons. Authorities reported around 1,000 police officers were injured on Saturday alone.

Despite the unrest, Pickford and Megan attended the Celine Dion concert. After the performance, their driver advised them to proceed directly to their hotel. The couple reportedly spent time in their hotel lobby before visiting Notre Dame the following morning and then departing Paris. Megan concluded her video by expressing thoughts for those affected by the disturbances.

French officials acknowledged the severity of the situation, with the Minister of the Interior stating that police had lost control in some cities. President Emmanuel Macron appealed for unity and promised that all necessary measures would be taken to bring those responsible to justice. The Minister for Urban Affairs described the violence as a form of insurrection, suggesting that some individuals were trained in such tactics and influenced by elements like drug traffickers. Investigations were initiated to determine the origins of those involved.
