Phoenix Suns Player Dillon Brooks Charged with DUI in Arizona
Prosecutors filed a misdemeanor charge against the NBA player following a March arrest for alleged speeding and driving under the influence.
Phoenix Suns forward Dillon Brooks has been charged with driving under the influence, according to a report by TMZ. Prosecutors in Maricopa County, Arizona, have filed a criminal complaint against Brooks for a misdemeanor DUI charge stemming from his arrest in March.
Scottsdale police reportedly pulled Brooks over around 1 a.m. on March 6 for traffic violations, alleging he was driving 85 mph in a 45 mph zone. He was subsequently arrested and released from custody approximately 2.5 hours later. Police described him as respectful and cooperative.
The charges come as the NBA season approaches its start. The Suns' media day was held days prior to the DUI charges being filed.
Brooks's arrest occurred about eight months after he filed a new restraining order against the mother of his two children. No attorney is listed for Brooks in the DUI case, and his player agency, Klutch Sports, has been contacted for comment.
Brooks, known for his perimeter defense, has cultivated a public persona as a league 'villain,' marked by past feuds with players such as LeBron James and Draymond Green.
Last season, the Suns finished seventh in the Western Conference and were swept in the first round of the NBA Playoffs by the Oklahoma City Thunder. Despite the team's struggles, Brooks recorded a career-high 20.2 points per game. The Suns are scheduled to open their regular season on October 21 against the Portland Trail Blazers, followed by their home opener against the Golden State Warriors on October 24.
