Phoenix Bank Employees Rescue Food Vendor During Severe Storm

Employees at a PNC Bank branch in Phoenix, Arizona, demonstrated a heartwarming act of community by rescuing a local food vendor caught in a severe storm. As strong winds and hail swept through the area last week, bank staff helped Hilario Cruz Cruz, a longtime neighborhood vendor, and his food cart to safety inside the branch.

The incident was captured on video by a person inside the bank and quickly gained traction online, with the footage amassing over 1 million views on TikTok. The video shows employees assisting Cruz Cruz in pulling his cart inside as the storm raged.

Cruz Cruz, who sells elotes and fresh fruit, recounted the intense winds and hail battering the area. "With one hand, I held the door against the strong wind blowing it, and with my other hand I pulled the cart inside," he told FOX 10 Phoenix. "The young man was doing the same on his side. If I had been anywhere else, maybe they wouldn't have been able to help me like that."

He believes the employees, who have been regular customers of his for years, felt compelled to help. "They said, ‘He's not going anywhere else. He stays here, and we're bringing the cart inside.’ I said, ‘It won't fit,’ but the manager said, ‘I know it will,’" Cruz Cruz recalled.

After the storm passed, Cruz Cruz navigated through fallen trees and branches on his way home, arriving drenched. However, a week later, he was back at his usual spot. The viral video appears to have boosted his business, a fact he attributes to the kindness shown by the bank employees. "I deeply appreciate my long-term customers. That's why they didn't leave me outside," he said. "I am profoundly grateful to the bank manager and employees because, thanks to them, nothing bad happened to me."
