Phoebe Philo, 52, has left an indelible mark on the fashion world, not only through her own label launched in 2023 but also by nurturing the careers of numerous designers who went on to achieve significant success.

Philo graduated from Central Saint Martins in 1996 and began her career assisting Stella McCartney at Chloé in 1997. She served as Chloé's creative director from 2001 to 2006. Her most impactful role was as creative director of Celine from 2008 to 2018, where she defined a luxe-minimalist aesthetic, elevated the brand into a global powerhouse, and cultivated a dedicated following known as 'Philophiles'. Many designers who worked under her at Celine have since risen to prominence in the industry.

Among Philo's notable protégés is Johnny Coca, 50, currently the creative director of leather goods at Saint Laurent. Coca was the leather goods and accessories design director at Celine from 2010 to 2015 and later served as Mulberry's creative director before moving to Louis Vuitton and then Saint Laurent.

Chemena Kamali, 44, who became creative director at Chloé in 2023, began her career as an intern for Philo at Chloé in the early 2000s. She later held positions at Saint Laurent before returning to Chloé.

Nina Christen, 40, now the design director of shoes at Dior, has designed for Celine under Philo, Bottega Veneta, and The Row. She took on her current role at Dior in 2025.

Daniel Lee, 40, the chief creative officer at Burberry, is considered a top protégé of Philo. He was the director of ready-to-wear at Celine from 2012 to 2018. His tenure as creative director at Bottega Veneta earned critical acclaim, and he moved to Burberry in 2022.

Matthieu Blazy, 42, creative director at Chanel, worked as a senior designer under Philo at Celine from 2014 to 2016. He later became creative director at Bottega Veneta in 2021 and joined Chanel in 2024, where his work has been credited with a retail boom.

Drew Henry, 38, artistic director at Courrèges, interned for Philo at Celine and later joined her full-time team. He rejoined Philo to assist with the launch of her brand in 2020 and then became a senior design director at Burberry in 2023.

Peter Do, 36, a Vietnam-born U.S. designer, honed his skills at Celine under Philo for two years after winning the LVMH Graduate Prize in 2014, before launching his own successful label in 2018. His structural tailoring is favored by celebrities.

Michael Rider, 45, artistic director at Celine, was the design director at the brand for nearly a decade during Philo's tenure. After a period as creative director for Polo Ralph Lauren, he returned to Celine in 2024.
