Phillies Force Game 3 in NL Wild Card Series After Extra-Inning Victory

The Philadelphia Phillies forced a winner-take-all Game 3 in their National League Wild Card Series matchup against the Atlanta Braves with a 4-3 victory on Wednesday. Alec Bohm hit a two-out home run in the 10th inning to secure the win.

The Phillies had trailed 3-1 before a two-run rally in the eighth inning, sparked by back-to-back home runs from Kyle Schwarber and Bryce Harper. Harper's blast came an inning after he committed a fielding error that allowed the Braves to take a 3-2 lead.

Andrew Painter pitched three scoreless innings in relief, protecting the Phillies' bullpen. He stranded two runners in the 10th and struck out Dominic Smith to end the game after an ABS challenge upheld by the umpire.

In the seventh inning, Drake Baldwin's double glanced off Harper's glove in right field, driving in Sean Murphy to give Atlanta a 2-1 lead. Matt Olson added a sacrifice fly for the Braves. Harper, who recently returned to outfield play, acknowledged the play: "Probably should have been caught, obviously."

Schwarber's home run traveled 447 feet, and Harper's followed with a 418-foot drive. These homers came off Dylan Lee, who was the winning pitcher in the Braves' 5-3 opening game victory.

Tyler Mahle pitched seven innings for Atlanta, allowing one run on six hits. For Philadelphia, Cristopher Sánchez allowed three runs in 6 2/3 innings, throwing a career-high 116 pitches.

The start time for Game 3 on Thursday is pending the conclusion of other Wild Card Series matchups. The Braves announced it will be either 2:15 p.m. ET or 8:15 p.m. ET in Atlanta.
