A Philadelphia police officer was shot and killed, and another officer was injured Saturday while responding to a report of a man with a gun, authorities said.
Officer Shane Seiber, 40, was killed early Saturday morning in west Philadelphia, Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel announced. Seiber, a 10-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department, and his partner were transported to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where they underwent surgery. The surviving officer is in stable condition.
A suspect has been taken into custody, Bethel confirmed.
Governor Josh Shapiro ordered that state flags fly at half-mast in honor of Seiber. He is survived by his wife and two children, a 7-year-old son and a 3-year-old daughter.
