A Philadelphia man faces multiple felony charges related to a series of burglaries, including an attempted break-in at the home of Eagles running back Saquon Barkley. Jabir Parker, 24, was arrested Tuesday by the Lower Merion Police Department with assistance from multiple law enforcement agencies.
The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office has charged Parker with burglary, conspiracy to commit burglary, criminal trespass, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, and criminal use of a communications facility, among other charges. While the district attorney's office did not name Barkley as a victim, multiple Philadelphia news outlets confirmed his home was targeted.
Barkley and his family were home on July 18 when the alleged attempted burglary occurred. No one was harmed during the incident. Prosecutors claim that Parker stole jewelry valued at approximately $800,000 and a home safe.
Parker was taken into custody by the Lower Merion Police Department, with support from the FBI SWAT, Pennsylvania State Police, Philadelphia Police Department, and the Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office. He appeared before a judge, where bail was set at $1 million, and he was subsequently remanded to Montgomery County Correctional Facility. Parker is scheduled to return to court for a preliminary hearing on September 10.
Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele commended the Lower Merion Police for their efforts. "Anyone who is thinking about committing crimes in Montgomery County should understand the outstanding effort that our law enforcement officers make in locating and catching perpetrators of crime and protecting our residents," Steele said in a statement.
Authorities are actively searching for additional suspects in connection with the burglaries and are requesting that anyone with information contact the Lower Merion Police Department.
