Philadelphia Diner Fires Server After Allegedly Trashing Customer's Belongings

A Philadelphia diner has terminated an employee after a customer accused the server of discarding her belongings, including car keys, a jacket, and her daughter's toys, into a trash can while the pair briefly used the restroom.

Kumbah Sarnor recounted the incident, which she posted to Instagram in a video that has since gained traction. Sarnor stated that she and her daughter were dining at Silk City diner on a Wednesday evening when the alleged event occurred.

According to Sarnor, after finishing their meal and while waiting for their check, they went to use the restroom. Upon their return, approximately five minutes later, all of their items had been removed from the table. Sarnor reported asking the server about her jacket, car keys, wallet, and her daughter's stuffed animals. She claims the server began searching and eventually pulled the items from a garbage can, mixed with food and debris.

Sarnor also alleged that other diners observed the server using her daughter's stuffed toys to wipe down the table. She expressed her shock and distress in the video, stating she had never experienced such treatment and found it rude and inhospitable.

When Sarnor raised the issue with a manager, she was reportedly told the owner was present. She stated the owner emerged after about 10 minutes. Sarnor recounted the server telling her, "You need to be more conscious of what you leave at the table, 75 percent of my job is throwing stuff out."

In response to the incident, Silk City diner issued a statement on its Instagram page. The diner acknowledged the situation, calling it unacceptable and not reflective of their standards or values. They issued a sincere apology to anyone affected and confirmed that the employee involved is no longer employed by the establishment. The diner stated they were addressing the matter and moving forward appropriately.
