Phil Mickelson Seeks Treatment for Family Trauma and Addiction
The professional golfer has reportedly entered a treatment facility to address personal issues.
Golfer Phil Mickelson has entered an addiction treatment facility to seek help for "family trauma and addiction," according to a report. The 56-year-old professional athlete recently checked into an undisclosed facility, a spokesperson for Mickelson told TMZ.
Mickelson, a six-time major champion, has previously spoken about his struggles with a gambling addiction. He is believed to have already left the treatment center. Representatives for Mickelson did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The news follows Mickelson's recent absences from professional golf. He stepped away from the LIV Golf circuit and major championships earlier this year. Mickelson missed the start of the LIV Golf season, participated in one tournament in South Africa in March, and then withdrew again. He also pulled out of The Masters and the Open Championship, citing an unspecified private family matter involving his wife, Amy.
Mickelson and his wife, Amy, have been married since November 1996 and have three children together.
