Phil Mickelson Enters Addiction Treatment for 'Family Trauma'

Golfer Phil Mickelson recently entered an addiction treatment center to address what his spokesperson described as "family trauma and addiction." The six-time major champion is believed to have already completed his stay at the undisclosed facility.

Mickelson has withdrawn from recent professional golf events, including LIV Golf tournaments and major championships. He previously cited an unspecified private family matter involving his wife, Amy, for his absence. The couple has been married since 1996 and has three children.

The golfer has been open about his past struggles with gambling addiction, admitting in 2023 that he had "crossed the line from moderation into addiction." He described how his addiction had affected his presence with loved ones, causing significant harm to his family.

In addition to his personal health matters, Mickelson has faced allegations of misconduct. In June, reports surfaced that he had resigned from The Farms Golf Club in California amid claims of inappropriate physical contact with a staff member. Mickelson's representatives stated that he had "never been expelled from a golf club" and that any decision to leave was his alone. His attorney also indicated that Mickelson was prepared to hold accountable any publications spreading speculation or false rumors.

Earlier reports also detailed an allegation from 2015, in which Mickelson was accused of showing a naked photograph of himself to the then-wife of fellow golfer Pat Perez. According to the report, Mickelson later apologized to the couple. His representatives have previously stated that some allegations are false, while others revisit acknowledged mistakes, and that stacking disputed claims does not create credibility.
