Phil Collins Calls Trump 'Nasty,' Teases Song About America

British rock icon Phil Collins has criticized President Donald Trump, calling his demeanor "unattractive" and "nasty" during a recent interview with Piers Morgan on "Piers Morgan Uncensored." Collins, who is set to be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame as a solo artist, expressed his disapproval of Trump's mannerisms, contrasting them with what he perceived as the more eloquent and elegant conduct of past presidents.

During the interview, Collins also disclosed that he has an unwritten song about America titled "Fat People With Guns." He described the phrase as something he had jotted down to remember, indicating it was a concept he might develop further.

Collins' remarks touch upon a broader discussion about musicians using their platforms to voice political opinions. Experts suggest that artists can face significant backlash when their criticism shifts from specific politicians or policies to broader statements about American culture or its citizens. Doug Eldridge, founder of Achilles PR, noted that while artists are free to express themselves, such broad criticisms can alienate audiences and have commercial consequences.

Sarah Schmidt, president of PR firm Interdependence, echoed this sentiment, stating that mocking a "USA chant" or criticizing American beliefs can lead to swift and intense negative reactions from fans who support the artist financially.

Beyond his criticism of Trump, Collins also expressed concerns about the potential for presidents to exceed the two-term limit. He questioned whether Trump might attempt to circumvent the constitutional restriction on presidential terms. However, Trump himself has previously addressed speculation about a third term, stating in August that the law is "very strong" and citing the 22nd Amendment, which limits presidents to two elected terms.

Despite his commentary on political figures and societal issues, Collins described himself as "not a political person."
