The PGA Tour is "almost certain" to drop golf content brand Good Good as a sponsor for an upcoming November event, following backlash over a controversial promotional video. The event, slated to take place at Omni Barton Creek Resort & Spa in Austin, Texas, as part of the PGA Tour’s FedExCup Fall series, now faces uncertainty regarding Good Good’s involvement.
PGA Tour CEO Brian Rolapp indicated the tour has sponsors prepared to replace Good Good if ties are severed. Rolapp was noncommittal about retaining the brand for the event and criticized the brand’s initial response to the controversy.
The controversy stems from a video posted by Good Good Golf and Callaway to promote a new driver collaboration. The clip depicted Good Good co-founder Garrett Clark pushing fellow brand creator Alexis Miestowski, intended as a spoof of the horror film “Obsession.”
Both brands swiftly removed the video from their social channels and issued apologies. However, the response did little to quell public outrage. Retailers have begun to distance themselves from the brand, with Golf Galaxy and Dick’s Sporting Goods reportedly removing Good Good merchandise from their online and physical stores. PGA Tour Superstore locations have also reportedly pulled the brand's products from shelves.
Target also appears to have removed Good Good products from its online store. The New York Post reached out to Dick’s Sporting Goods, the parent company of Golf Galaxy, and Target for comment, but did not immediately receive a response.
Separately, Golf Channel announced it had postponed the premiere of a reality show, “Big Break x Good Good,” by one week. The delay was attributed to one of the show's sponsors withdrawing their support in the wake of the ad debacle.
