Peyton Manning Not Expected to Pursue Colts GM Position
The Hall of Famer is reportedly not interested in the open general manager role with the Indianapolis Colts.
Peyton Manning is reportedly not a candidate for the Indianapolis Colts' vacant general manager position. According to ESPN, the Hall of Fame quarterback has not been approached by the Colts about the role and is not expected to express interest.
Manning has built a successful post-playing career with responsibilities including ESPN's "ManningCast," Omaha Productions, and various commercial endorsements. The demands of an NFL general manager role are unlikely to align with his current commitments. Manning, 50, also has two high school-aged children.
In 2024, Manning publicly stated that running an NFL franchise was not a primary focus, prioritizing his "ManningCast" duties and family time.
The Colts fired longtime general manager Chris Ballard on October 19, following a 26-20 loss to the then-winless Tennessee Titans. Ballard had held the position since 2017. During his tenure, the Colts reached the playoffs only once, in 2020, after quarterback Andrew Luck's retirement in 2019.
Colts owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon stated after Ballard's dismissal that the team would conduct a "thorough search" to find the "right leader for the future of this organization."
Ballard faced significant pressure in his final year. After starting the 2025 season at 8-2, the team experienced a seven-game losing streak after quarterback Daniel Jones suffered a season-ending Achilles tear. The Colts became the first team to hold a six-game lead over .500 and finish with a losing record.
As of the report, the Colts are 2-4 in the 2026 season, placing them second in the AFC South. The team is scheduled to play the undefeated Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.
