A 36-year-old petrol station worker is fighting for his life after being allegedly run over by a stranger while on duty at a United Petroleum station in Coffs Harbour, Australia.

Emergency services responded to the incident at the Harbour Drive location around 7 p.m. on Tuesday. According to police, the worker was checking fuel tank levels on the north-western side of the forecourt when the alleged hit-and-run occurred. Bystanders provided initial first aid before paramedics, firefighters, and State Emergency Service personnel arrived to free the man, who was trapped under a ute.

The man was treated by paramedics at the scene and transported to Coffs Harbour Hospital in a critical condition. He has since been airlifted to John Hunter Hospital. A worker at the United Petroleum station told the Daily Mail that the injured employee is not believed to have known the driver of the ute.

The alleged driver, a 44-year-old woman, underwent mandatory testing and was taken to Coffs Harbour Police Station. She has been charged with negligent driving occasioning grievous bodily harm and breach of bail. The woman was refused police bail and appeared before the Bail Division on Wednesday.
