Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has denied allegations made by Forest Green owner Dale Vince that the club made an illegal approach for manager Robbie Savage. Vince claimed that Peterborough showed "no respect" to Savage's position during negotiations.
According to Vince, Savage was given permission by Forest Green to speak to another club late last month, and Peterborough subsequently offered him the job verbally following the departure of Luke Williams. Vince stated that Peterborough later denied offering the job, adding that they were moving on to their second choice, which left Savage in a difficult situation. Forest Green then agreed to let Savage leave. "In the end, we said 'look, just take him on your terms'. We cared more about Robbie than the outcome," Vince said.
MacAnthony responded by asserting his 20-year tenure as an owner in the EFL and stated that he has respect for the process. "Good luck to Forest Green in appointing a new manager," he added.
Forest Green have not confirmed whether they have contacted the Football Association regarding the matter. Savage has since begun his role at Peterborough. Following a 3-1 win at Leicester City on Saturday, Peterborough are scheduled to host Burton Albion this weekend in Savage's first home league game in charge.
