Former SNP chief executive Peter Murrell will return to the High Court in Edinburgh on December 7 for a hearing concerning the proceeds of his crimes. The court agreed to postpone the proceedings after both the Crown and the defense requested an adjournment.
Murrell, 61, is currently serving a sentence of over five years in HMP Dumfries for embezzling more than £400,000 from the Scottish National Party. Prosecutors aim to recover the stolen funds during the upcoming hearing. Evidence presented in court indicated that Murrell used the embezzled money to support an extravagant lifestyle, including the purchase of a £124,500 motorhome equipped with luxury amenities.
Murrell's legal representative has previously stated that his client is capable of repaying the stolen sum, but this can only occur after the conclusion of the ongoing legal proceedings.
Murrell, the estranged husband of former First Minister Nicola Sturgeon, was found guilty of embezzlement earlier this year. The conviction and sentencing marked a significant development in a case that has drawn considerable attention.
