Legendary musician Peter Gabriel made a surprising appearance in the penultimate episode of "Silo" Season 3, performing his 1986 song "Here Comes the Flood" just moments before a catastrophic event. "Silo" creator Graham Yost revealed the story behind Gabriel's cameo in a recent interview, explaining that the singer and his family were also residents of the fictional underground city.
Gabriel's song "Red Rain" had previously been featured in Season 2. In Season 3, Episode 9, as Dr. Victor Crnkovic watches Gabriel perform, he explains that the musician played the event for free because he and his family were eager to see inside a Silo, similar to other people worldwide.
Yost initially approached Gabriel in Season 1 about reworking his song "Solsbury Hill" for the show's Freedom Day theme. Although that particular collaboration didn't materialize, Yost and Gabriel connected, leading to the later request for the Season 3 performance. "He said he would do it," Yost told Decider.
The day of Gabriel's performance was dubbed "Peter Gabriel Day" on set, with star Rebecca Ferguson noting its special atmosphere. Yost, a self-proclaimed fan, invited "Slow Horses" showrunner Will Smith, who is also a major Gabriel fan, to the set. Smith's reaction upon seeing Gabriel was one of profound excitement, with Yost recalling him exclaiming, "This is the greatest day of my life."
Gabriel's performance of "Here Comes the Flood" featured lyrics particularly resonant with the show's themes, including lines like "The jaded underworld was riding high" and "We’ll say goodbye to flesh and blood."
The episode concluded with a devastating blast, leaving the future of humanity within the Silo uncertain, with Daniel separated from a pregnant Helen. The dramatic events unfolded immediately after Gabriel's appearance, underscoring the apocalyptic tone of the season finale.
