Peter Byrne, Naked Eyes Singer Behind 80s Hit "Always Something There to Remind Me," Dies at 74

Peter Byrne, the lead singer of the 1980s New Wave band Naked Eyes, has died at the age of 74. The band's official website announced his passing on September 14, stating that he died peacefully following a "brief illness."

Byrne was best known for his vocals on Naked Eyes' enduring hits, including a synth-pop cover of Burt Bacharach and Hal David's "(There's) Always Something There to Remind Me," which reached the top 10. The band, formed in 1982, also achieved chart success with songs like "Promises, Promises," "When the Lights Go Out," and "(What) In the Name of Love." Though Byrne was the frontman, he shared the creative spotlight with keyboardist Rob Fisher, who co-founded the band with Byrne and passed away in 1999.

Byrne and Fisher had a prior connection to other prominent figures in the 1980s New Wave scene. Before forming Naked Eyes, they were members of the band Neon from 1979 to 1982, alongside Curt Smith and Roland Orzabal of Tears for Fears. Byrne and Fisher, both originally from Bath, England, were friends from university before embarking on their musical careers together.

Naked Eyes' active period was relatively short, disbanding in 1984 after releasing two albums. However, their music, particularly "Always Something There to Remind Me," has continued to resonate with audiences.
