Pete Davidson Reveals Extent of Past Drug Use, Says Sobriety is Easier Now
The comedian detailed his past struggles with ketamine, acid, and other substances, crediting his daughter with helping him maintain sobriety.
Pete Davidson has revealed the extent of his past drug use, including “cooking” ketamine and consuming a cocktail of substances daily. In a recent interview with Variety, the comedian detailed his struggles with addiction at its peak.
"It was K. I was getting liquid and cooking it. And I would do acid and shrooms and whippets and smoke weed all day and eat pills every day," Davidson recalled. He explained that the situation became alarming when he realized he no longer felt high from the substances themselves, but rather experienced withdrawal symptoms when he wasn't using.
Davidson described hitting a low point in the summer of 2023, following the release of his autobiographical series “Bupkis.” The show, which required him to revisit difficult periods of his life, contributed to his turning to drugs to cope with the emotional toll.

A pivotal moment came when his mother, Amy, expressed her fear of him being in the news for a negative incident. This conversation prompted Davidson, then 32, to seek help and enter a rehabilitation facility. He also stepped away from “Bupkis,” despite its renewal for a second season.
"I was part of the problem of what I hated the most, which was the invasiveness around my personal life. I was just lobbing it up and continuing the narrative," Davidson admitted.
While Davidson had previously been to rehab, he stated that this time he approached sobriety with greater seriousness. "When I turned 30 and I was there, it was a real low point. Nothing much was going on with my career and I was like, ‘This f—kin’ sucks. I can’t do it anymore.’ And it can’t be for anyone or for a job. You really have to want it, and when you’re done, you’re done,” he said.
Davidson shared that he is now sober and consumes alcohol sparingly, with only a few beers per year. He has abstained from hard drugs for two to three years and from marijuana for over a year. He noted that quitting marijuana was surprisingly the most challenging aspect.
Welcoming his daughter, Scottie, with ex-girlfriend Elsie Hewitt in December 2025 has made maintaining sobriety easier. "Anytime there’s ever a thought, I look at my phone background and go, ‘Oh yeah, no,'" he explained.
Davidson and Hewitt, who dated from March 2025, split in May 2026, but Davidson emphasized his commitment to his daughter. "I want my daughter to be proud of both her parents,” he stated. “When she starts going to school and having friends, I want her to be proud of where she’s from, and I want her to be comfortable and feel safe.” He vowed to do "whatever it takes to be here for [his] daughter."
