Pete Davidson Details Drug Use, Addiction Height

Pete Davidson has revealed the extent of his past drug use, stating that at the height of his addiction he was "cooking" ketamine and consuming a variety of other substances daily. In a recent interview with Variety, the 32-year-old comedian detailed a period where he was not only using drugs but actively processing liquid ketamine. "It was K. I was getting liquid and cooking it. And I would do acid and shrooms and whippets and smoke weed all day and eat pills every day," Davidson said.

He described reaching a dangerous point where the drugs no longer produced a high, but he experienced withdrawal symptoms when not using them. "It got scary because I didn’t feel high. I felt high when I wasn’t doing it, so I was like, this is a huge problem," he told the publication.

Davidson pinpointed the summer of 2023 as a period of profound difficulty, exacerbated by the release of "Bupkis," an autobiographical series where he portrayed himself. This followed his departure from "Saturday Night Live" the previous year, which left him without his previous structured routine.

Davidson explained that portraying his own life and struggles in "Bupkis" compelled him to confront his darkest moments, and he turned to drugs as a coping mechanism. The decision to seek help came after a difficult FaceTime call with his mother, Amy, who expressed her fear of him facing a tragic outcome. "She told me her biggest fear was waking up one day to see on the news that something bad had happened to me. I reached a point where I couldn't do that to her anymore," he recounted.

Following this conversation, Davidson entered rehab and subsequently stepped away from "Bupkis," even though the show had been renewed for a second season. He acknowledged his role in perpetuating the public's invasive interest in his personal life through his work. Although he had attended rehab multiple times before, he emphasized that this instance was driven by a genuine desire for personal recovery rather than external pressure.

Davidson stated that he has been sober for approximately two to three years, abstaining from hard drugs and more recently, from marijuana. He found quitting weed to be surprisingly challenging. He noted that the birth of his daughter, Scottie, with model Elsie Hewitt, has made maintaining sobriety a simpler objective.

In the same interview, Davidson also reflected on his past relationship with Kim Kardashian. He described himself as a "survivor" of their intense, nine-month romance, which generated significant media attention. Davidson noted the challenges of dating someone under such intense public scrutiny, particularly given his past struggles with mental health and addiction, finding the constant attention and security measures overwhelming.
