Baltimore Orioles first baseman Pete Alonso thanked Mets fans for their support during his return to Flushing, New York, this week. In comments following the Orioles' 7-1 victory over the Mets on Wednesday at Citi Field, Alonso expressed his appreciation for the reception he received.

"I am beyond thankful for all the support and it was really fun to play," Alonso stated. "I feel like New York will always be a place where it feels like homecoming – it doesn’t matter whether it’s here or at Yankee Stadium. The whole city of New York is meaningful to us."

Alonso, who played for the Mets for seven seasons before joining the American League East rival Orioles, has a career slash line of .253/.333/.558 with 14 home runs and 35 RBIs against the Yankees. In 23 games at Yankee Stadium, he has hit .247/.312/.558 with nine homers and 21 RBIs.

During a four-game series against the Yankees in the Bronx earlier this season from May 1-4, Alonso went 5-for-14 with two solo home runs. He is statistically averaging a home run in every three-game set and five RBIs every six games against the Yankees.

The Orioles currently sit 2 1/2 games out of the third and final Wild Card spot in the American League. They would need to overtake three teams to make the postseason for the first time since 2024. Alonso and the Orioles are scheduled to visit Yankee Stadium for a season-ending series next weekend.
