Pete Alonso Dons Shirt Mocking David Stearns, Then Hits Two Home Runs
The Orioles slugger's shirt featured a quote directed at the former Mets executive during contract negotiations.
Pete Alonso, now with the Baltimore Orioles, was recently seen wearing a shirt that referenced a critical comment he made to former New York Mets executive David Stearns. The apparel, produced by BreakingT, also celebrates Alonso's 300th career home run.
The shirt displays the quote: “When my career is being evaluated for the Hall of Fame years from now, you’ll still be fiddling with your f–king formulas.” This statement was reportedly made by Alonso to Stearns during contract negotiations following the 2024 season.

Alonso was also observed wearing the shirt at Camden Yards earlier in September, according to images from BreakingT’s social media. The quote was first reported by The Post’s Jon Heyman in May. At the time, Alonso was coming off a career-low full season in 2024, batting .240/.329/.459 with 34 home runs. The Mets reportedly offered him approximately $40 million over two years.
Stearns and Mets owner Steve Cohen reportedly responded to Alonso's comment by indicating a willingness to work on a deal. Ultimately, Alonso and the Mets agreed to a two-year, $54 million contract with an opt-out after the 2025 season. He then exercised that opt-out and signed a five-year, $155 million deal with the Orioles last offseason.
On the same day of wearing the shirt, Alonso hit two home runs in the Orioles' 10-2 victory over the Yankees. One of his blasts traveled 471 feet, tying for the second-longest home run of his eight-year career. Alonso is currently leading the American League with 43 home runs this season, posting a .267/.363/.522 slash line in his first year with Baltimore.
Alonso returned to Citi Field earlier this month and received a significant ovation. He hit his 300th career home run in the ninth inning against his former teammate Kodai Senga, which tied the game and led to a curtain call from the Mets fans. After the game, Alonso expressed gratitude for the support, stating, “I feel like New York will always be a place where it feels like homecoming – it doesn’t matter whether it’s here or at Yankee Stadium. The whole city of New York is meaningful to us.”
