Animal welfare organization PETA has criticized British glamour model Katie Price for purchasing a new puppy in Dubai, calling for her to be banned from owning pets.
The model, 48, reportedly spent £2,000 on a male pomsky, having recently signed paperwork with her husband Lee Andrews. PETA's criticism comes in light of a history of animal deaths and welfare controversies involving Price's pets.
Over the years, Price has owned numerous animals, several of which have met tragic ends. In 2017, one of her horses was killed after escaping onto the A24 road. Later that year, her two Sphynx cats, Dobby and Hagrid, were put up for sale. In 2018, her German Shepherd, Queenie, was killed in a hit-and-run incident.
Further incidents include the death of a pet chameleon named Marvin in 2018, which Price allegedly attributed to a "broken heart" after her son moved out, though financial difficulties affecting her home's heating were also suggested as a cause. In the same year, her Alsatian, Bear, was rehomed after multiple near-death experiences, including escaping onto a busy road. Her third Alsatian, Sparkle, died in 2020 in a similar incident to Queenie's death, being hit by a car on the A24.
In 2020, her French bulldog, Rolo, suffocated at home after reportedly becoming trapped in an electric armchair, an incident followed by public backlash and threats against Price. The following year, her French bulldog Precious, a gift from her then-fiancé Carl Woods, was given to a builder working on her television show "Mucky Mansion."
More recently, in 2022, Price's dog Sharon was killed when she allegedly ran onto the road and was hit by a car. Her protection dog, Blade, also died after being struck by a car in June 2023. Following Blade's death, Price suggested he was deliberately killed and that the RSPCA had visited her home without concerns.
In July 2023, a month after Blade's death, Price acquired a German Shepherd puppy named Tank. However, by August 2023, she was accused of hitting the puppy during a TikTok live session. She later gave Tank away, with reports suggesting she had lost interest in training him.
Despite these incidents, Price has continued to acquire animals. She currently has four Chihuahuas: Captain, Buddy, Colin, and Batman. In January 2022, fans expressed concern after she was seen with Buddy stuffed down her jacket while horse riding. In the same year, she was reportedly devastated after temporarily losing Captain while on holiday, though he was later found at a local vet.
In August, Price announced the loss of one of her Sphynx cat Doris's newborn kittens, attributing its death to prematurity and difficulty feeding. In June, her husband Lee Andrews mentioned that one of their eight Sphynx cats had recently died.
