The individual is not a student and has been banned from campus.
University of Chicago officials announced Tuesday that a person of interest has been identified in the investigation into an alleged sexual assault that occurred early Sunday morning at the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity house.
The school stated that the person of interest is not affiliated with the university and has been banned from campus. The identification was made based on witness statements and evidence from university cameras and license plate readers, which were shared with the Chicago Police Department.
Authorities have not publicly named the individual as no charges have been filed. The reported incident took place during a party at the fraternity house in the Hyde Park neighborhood. According to initial reports, a woman was allegedly assaulted when another individual intervened, and the suspect then fled.
Alpha Epsilon Pi has stated that it is cooperating with the ongoing investigation. The fraternity chapter has been instructed by the university to refrain from holding events or programs while the inquiry continues.
