A person of interest has been identified in connection with an alleged sexual assault that occurred at a fraternity near the University of Chicago, according to university officials. The individual is not a student and has been banned from campus.

The alleged incident took place around 2 a.m. Sunday at a fraternity house, the university stated. The victim, who is not affiliated with the university, reported the assault. An individual was interviewed regarding the incident, and the suspect reportedly fled the premises.

University cameras and license plate readers provided video evidence that corroborates witness statements in identifying the person of interest. This information has been shared with the Chicago Police Department (CPD), according to the university.

The university stated it will not release the name of the person of interest as the CPD investigation is ongoing. University police facilitated the victim's transport to the University of Chicago Medical Center for care and notified CPD.

"This is deeply concerning for the University community. The safety and well-being of our students and all who come to our community is our highest priority," the university said in a statement. "Many people at the University are working to support the victim and assist CPD in its response."

While fraternities are not formally recognized student organizations at the University of Chicago and have no official affiliation, university students are subject to its policies and disciplinary procedures. The university reiterated its commitment to addressing sexual misconduct cases, imposing consequences, and improving prevention efforts.

Alpha Epsilon Pi Headquarters confirmed it is cooperating with university administration and law enforcement. The fraternity stated that it opposes sexual harassment and assault, and that its membership rules strictly prohibit such conduct. The chapter has been instructed not to host any events or programs while the investigation proceeds.
