Perez Hilton sustained multiple broken bones during a livestream event on August 4, according to reports from his brother-in-law and sister. The celebrity blogger is currently hospitalized and recovering from these injuries, which occurred on the same night he livestreamed self-harm.
Tom Giarraffa, Hilton's brother-in-law and husband to his sister Barbara, revealed the extent of Hilton's injuries in a recent episode of The Perez Hilton Podcast. Giarraffa stated that Hilton fell multiple times on the night of the livestream, leading to broken bones. Hilton was treated for significant blood loss, lacerations, and an overdose following the incident.
According to a police report, Hilton's sister, Barbara Giarraffa, discovered him naked and covered in blood in the bathroom of his Miami home, which he shares with his mother and three children. She reportedly moved the children to her car and drove away as Hilton pursued them into the street, banging on the car windows. Hilton then locked himself inside the house and inflicted cuts with a knife before first responders intervened.
Following the incident, Hilton was hospitalized under Florida's Baker Act. This law allows for the temporary involuntary detention of individuals experiencing a mental health crisis. Upon his medical discharge, doctors have a 72-hour window to transfer him to a psychiatric facility for evaluation.
Legal experts suggest that Hilton may not be released immediately after the 72-hour period. According to Mark Astor, a Florida attorney specializing in Baker Act cases, potential outcomes include release, agreement to voluntary stay, or a petition for involuntary placement. The latter would involve a Miami-Dade judge holding a confidential hearing within five days to determine if Hilton should remain institutionalized.
