Miami-Dade County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the Miami home of celebrity blogger Perez Hilton following reports of an individual livestreaming acts of self-harm. The sheriff's office confirmed they received multiple calls and dispatched deputies to investigate the situation.

Deputies on the scene communicated with Hilton’s family members. According to a statement obtained by Newsweek, officers decided to "tactfully disengage" while continuing to monitor the situation. The sheriff’s office emphasized their approach in such incidents.

"In many incidents involving a person experiencing a mental health crisis or actively harming themselves, deputies prioritize de-escalation by creating time, distance, and opportunities for communication," the statement read. "Unless there is an immediate threat to others, slowing the situation and utilizing crisis intervention techniques can reduce the likelihood of a suicide-by-cop encounter and minimize the risk of injury to the individual, deputies, and the public."

Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., known professionally as Perez Hilton, is a father of three children, all welcomed via surrogacy. Representatives for Hilton had not responded to requests for comment by the time of publication.
