Perez Hilton Reunites With Children Amid Treatment Following Suicide Attempt
The internet personality has had supervised visits with his three children while continuing to focus on his recovery.
Perez Hilton has recently reunited with his three children, Mario, 13, Mia, 11, and Mayte, 8, as he continues his treatment following a suicide attempt in August. This marks the first time he has seen his children since the incident.
According to a blog post shared on Hilton's website, he was granted his first supervised visit with his children a few weeks ago. Initially, communication was limited to video calls, but he has since been able to spend time with them and his mother for short, supervised visits at the treatment facility. The blog post stated that seeing his children in person has been "incredibly meaningful and healing," though communication with Hilton remains limited.
"While that’s hard for us and for him, we understand that right now the priority isn’t constant communication with family, but rather giving him the time and space to focus on his care and continue making progress," the statement read. Hilton is reportedly working on understanding the events that led to his suicide attempt and learning new coping mechanisms.
It remains unclear when Hilton will be released from the treatment program. His mother, Teresita Lavandeira, was granted temporary custody of the children after Hilton was hospitalized on August 4th. His children had left their Florida home moments before the live stream of the incident occurred. Police responded to reports of a suicide attempt, and Hilton was found to have suffered significant injuries requiring surgery.
After several weeks in the hospital, Hilton was transferred to a residential treatment program. His family announced this update on September 14th.
A GoFundMe campaign was launched by Tony D'Angora, a friend of Hilton's, to raise funds for Lavandeira to support the children. The campaign emphasized that the funds would not be used for Hilton personally, but to help cover the costs associated with maintaining the children's schooling and activities during this challenging period. As of the latest report, the campaign had raised over $14,000.
