Perez Hilton Reconnecting With Children Amid Treatment for Self-Harm Incident

Perez Hilton is beginning to reconnect with his children and mother while undergoing treatment following a self-harm incident he livestreamed. The 48-year-old blogger, whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., is currently in a residential treatment center focusing on his mental health and recovery.

According to an update posted on his website, Hilton has had a few short, supervised visits with his children and his mother, who has been caring for them. "They were first able to spend time together through a few video calls, and since then, Perez has also been able to see his children and his mom a few times for short, supervised visits at the facility," the statement read. "Seeing his children in person has meant an enormous amount to Perez."

Hilton's team has had limited communication with him, prioritizing his time and space to focus on his care. "He’s continuing to work with his care team on understanding what led to his mental health crisis, recognizing warning signs, learning better ways to cope, and working through everything that brought him to this point," the statement continued. It remains unclear when he will transition from residential treatment to an outpatient program.

A GoFundMe fundraiser has been established by Hilton's longtime friend, producer Tom D'Angora, to support his mother and three children—Mario, 13; Mia, 11; and Mayte, eight—during his recovery. D'Angora emphasized that all funds raised will directly benefit Hilton's mother and children to cover the additional expenses of caring for them, with none of the money going to Hilton personally.

"Like any grandmother who suddenly finds herself responsible for raising three growing children, she’s also taken on significant and unexpected expenses," D'Angora stated. "She’s put much of her own life on hold to make sure the kids can continue going to school, participating in their normal activities, and having as much consistency as possible during an incredibly difficult time."

Hilton's family announced he entered the residential treatment program, noting there is "still a long road ahead." He is expected to remain in treatment for several more weeks. During this period, Hilton does not have access to a phone or laptop, and his communication with friends and family is restricted.

Hilton's three children are residing in Miami, Florida, under the temporary care of their grandmother. "Our family's priority continues to be giving them as much stability, routine, and 'normalcy' as possible while their dad focuses on his recovery," a statement from his relatives said.

The crisis occurred after Hilton moved back to his hometown of Miami. He was found by his sister on August 4, bleeding and holding a box cutter, during a livestream on TikTok. The platform eventually stopped the feed, and Hilton's account was subsequently banned. Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene, and Hilton was treated for lacerations and an overdose before being transported to a hospital under Florida's Baker Act, which allows for temporary involuntary holds during mental health crises. His family confirmed he experienced significant blood loss and multiple broken bones. "Perez is alive, he's getting help, and he's surrounded by people who want to see him healthy and happy again," his family stated.
