Perez Hilton, whose real name is Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., remains hospitalized under Florida's Baker Act following a self-harm incident during a TikTok livestream. His team confirmed he suffered significant blood loss and unspecified additional injuries, necessitating surgery in the coming days. His condition is described as serious but stable.
The Baker Act, officially the Florida Mental Health Act, allows for involuntary commitment for up to 72 hours for individuals deemed a risk to themselves or others. Hilton's communication is currently limited to immediate family and medical providers.
The incident occurred earlier this week when law enforcement responded to Hilton's Miami residence after fans expressed concern over his welfare during a distressing livestream. Surveillance footage showed police arriving at the home, and clips appeared to show Hilton with blood and a knife. The livestream video was subsequently removed by TikTok, and his account was suspended.
At the time of the livestream, Hilton's three children, niece, and sister were reportedly inside the Florida home. His family stated they immediately left to shield the children from further trauma. The family has requested privacy during this difficult time, emphasizing that the children are safe and being cared for by immediate family. They plan to focus on helping the children heal and regain a sense of security.
This is not Hilton's first health concern this year. In March, he was hospitalized for 21 days due to sepsis, stemming from an ulcer and perforation caused by taking flu medication on an empty stomach. Shortly thereafter, he experienced deep vein thrombosis, a condition he thankfully caught early.
Hilton, 48, launched his celebrity gossip blog in 2004. He has previously expressed regret for his past coverage of Britney Spears' 2007 breakdown, acknowledging criticism for perceived bullying.
