Perez Hilton, the celebrity gossip blogger and reality TV personality also known as Mario Armando Lavandeira Jr., was hospitalized on Tuesday night following a livestreamed incident that appeared to show self-harm. The 48-year-old has reportedly been experiencing multiple personal crises in the weeks leading up to the event, including financial difficulties and career setbacks, according to reports.

Sources close to Hilton told the Daily Mail that he was short of money and struggling to find new work projects. While he had reportedly signed a deal to host a show about cyberbullying, the production company had not yet paid him, and the role was still in development. Multiple recent reality show pitches to television production companies reportedly failed to progress past the pilot stage.

In addition to professional challenges, Hilton is said to be upset about his single status and continued difficulty finding a romantic partner. He has three children, born via surrogacy in 2013, 2015, and 2017.

This recent period of struggle follows a serious health scare earlier this year. Hilton spent 21 days in the hospital battling sepsis, which he said was triggered after taking flu medication on an empty stomach. The illness led to two surgeries and treatment for several medical issues, including fluid in his lungs, deep vein thrombosis, kidney problems, and an irregular heartbeat. He stated that the sepsis ordeal left him strapped for cash, prompting him to launch a line of religious-themed clothing to help cover his bills. Following the sepsis battle, Hilton had to learn to walk again.

Hilton recently moved from Las Vegas to his hometown of Miami, a decision he credited to divine intervention. However, his troubles appear to have intensified since the move.

On Tuesday night, deputies from the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Department responded to Hilton's residence after he livestreamed footage of himself seemingly covered in blood and holding a large knife. The sheriff's office stated they enacted "de-escalation measures," and a mental health team subsequently transported Hilton to the hospital by ambulance. Deputies remained at the home to offer support to his family. Hilton is believed to still be under medical care.

Hilton rose to fame in the early 2000s with his gossip blog, known for its often harsh commentary on celebrities' appearances and personal lives. He was recognized by Forbes as the number one 'Web Celeb' for three consecutive years. In recent years, Hilton has expressed regret for the cruelty of his past work, stating in 2012 that his goal was no longer to be liked but to be seen as less "toxic." He has also said he felt "deep shame" for his previous professional behavior and had apologized to many individuals he had wronged.

Representatives for Hilton stated they were aware of the concerning content and were making efforts to contact him. Their primary concern is his health and well-being, and they requested privacy for him and his family. No further comment will be made until confirmed information is available.
