The Pentagon has established a legal waiver that permits current and former military personnel, civilians, and contractors to share classified information regarding Unidentified Anomalous Phenomena (UAP) with the government. This initiative allows individuals previously bound by non-disclosure agreements or Special Access Program Indoctrination Agreements to disclose UAP-related National Defense Information through the authorized PURSUE (Presidential Unsealing and Reporting System for UAP Encounters) channel.
The waiver aims to remove barriers that have historically prevented individuals with knowledge of UAP from coming forward, overriding existing secrecy oaths without penalty. The Department of War stated that this move is intended to facilitate a comprehensive review and potential declassification of UAP-related documents, aligning with a directive for increased transparency.
This development builds upon a July directive that ordered the Department of War and intelligence agencies to allow former employees with UAP knowledge to report to the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) or PURSUE. Before this waiver, fear of legal consequences and security clearance revocation silenced many potential informants.
President Trump has previously expressed skepticism about alien life but has also mandated transparency regarding UFOs. Recent UAP file releases from the Trump administration have included accounts of government employees witnessing a triangle UFO near Colorado Springs in 2023.
Despite this new avenue for reporting by government personnel, the AARO, the Pentagon division tasked with examining UAP sightings, has not yet begun accepting public reports. Currently, public reporting of UAP incidents is limited to private databases such as the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC) and the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON). AARO's website currently states that reporting is restricted to current or former U.S. government employees, military personnel, or contractor personnel with direct knowledge of UAP-related programs or activities dating back to 1945.
