Penny Lancaster, 55, has shared insights into how she and her husband, musician Rod Stewart, 81, maintain their connection after 28 years together. Lancaster appeared on the television program Loose Women to discuss her relationship, noting that she remains "really attracted" to Stewart.
The couple met in 1999, welcoming their first son, Alastair, in 2005, and marrying in 2007. Their second son, Aiden, was born in 2011.
Lancaster described their relationship as one where they "really yearn to be with one another" when they do have time together, suggesting that spending time apart enhances their appreciation for each other. She emphasized the importance of continuous effort from both partners, stating, "You need to focus on yourself because if you don't feel good about yourself then your sparks not there and they don't recognise you as the women you fell in love with."
Regarding communication, Lancaster revealed that she and Stewart have a pact to address issues promptly and honestly, fostering trust. They also have an agreement to avoid arguments after consuming alcohol, as it can lead to regrettable words. Lancaster acknowledged that apologies are crucial, and Stewart has often been the one to initiate them.
Lancaster praised Stewart's "veracious energy" at 81, citing his continued engagement with his music career, touring plans, and regular gym routine as inspiring. "It's inspiring and for our kids as well to look up to and admire," she said.
The couple's initial meeting occurred at a party in London. Stewart requested Lancaster's phone number, but it was withheld by his bass player until Stewart had recovered from a recent divorce and was deemed ready for a relationship. Stewart recounted that his friend felt he was not in the right state of mind to begin a new romance.
Stewart has six other children from previous relationships. His eldest daughter, Sarah, was adopted and later reconnected with him in adulthood. He also has children Kimberly and Sean with ex-wife Alana Stewart, Ruby with ex-girlfriend Kelly Emberg, and Renee and Liam with former wife Rachel Hunter.
