Pennsylvania Woman Accused of Killing Husband and Son After Withdrawing Retirement Funds
Authorities allege a woman used her husband's 401(k) to fund a vacation before fatally stabbing him and their 3-year-old son in a hotel room.
A Pennsylvania woman is accused of fatally stabbing her husband and their 3-year-old son in a hotel room, according to authorities. Metallica Rose Harrison, 27, allegedly drained her husband Charles' 401(k) account to pay for a three-week stay at Great Wolf Lodge in the Poconos.
Family members told the New York Post that the vacation was intended as an early Christmas gift for their son, Tristan. While the financial decision was considered unusual, the family did not suspect any major issues between the couple. Step-mother April Thetga stated, "It was definitely odd, but they’d taken their 401(k) out… There was nothing we could do about that." She was unsure if the funds were borrowed against or withdrawn outright.
The family had appeared cheerful in the days leading up to the incident. Thetga recalled a video chat the day before where Harrison expressed her love, stating, "She had called and we’re video chatting, and then she says she loved us very much, just like she normally would."
However, on Monday, police were called to the hotel room after Harrison reportedly asked for help to die by suicide. According to an affidavit, she told an operator, "My husband and son are already gone in the bed in the living room. They're already gone, I'm sorry."
Charles Harrison was found with multiple stab wounds to the chest, and Tristan suffered a single stab wound to the chest. Harrison was discovered with self-inflicted injuries. As she was transported to the hospital, Harrison allegedly told EMS personnel she was "not supposed to be here" and inquired about the depth of her wrist veins for "next time," expressing frustration that her blood had clotted despite taking blood thinners.
Police recovered a butcher knife from the bathroom floor and a small knife in the sink, neither of which belonged to the hotel. They also found medication bottles and containers with suspected blood.
Monroe County District Attorney Mike Mancuso described the incident as a "violent domestic tragedy" and stated there was no public threat. The investigation is ongoing. A spokesperson for Great Wolf Lodge expressed deep sadness and confirmed cooperation with law enforcement.
Harrison has been charged with two counts of criminal homicide. It is not yet clear if she has entered a plea.
