Pennsylvania Mom May Face Death Penalty for Great Wolf Lodge Killings

The mother accused of fatally stabbing her husband and 3-year-old son at a Great Wolf Lodge in Pennsylvania could face the death penalty. Metallica Rose Harrison, 27, is currently in custody in Monroe County, Pennsylvania, after prosecutors allege she used kitchen knives to kill Charles "Chaz" Harrison, 36, and their son, Tristan.

Private investigator Rod Devine stated that while the death penalty is a possibility in Pennsylvania, several legal factors must be met. To be sentenced to death in the state, a person must be convicted of first-degree murder and found to have committed a "statutory aggravating circumstance." Devine noted that the killing of a child under 12 years old can serve as such a circumstance, alongside evidence of premeditation, which he believes may be present in this case. "The other component is that there’s a 3-year-old child that was killed," Devine said.

Despite the potential for a death sentence, Devine indicated that an actual execution is unlikely in Pennsylvania. The state's governor imposed a moratorium on the death penalty over a decade ago, halting executions. Devine suggested that the defense team may focus on mitigating circumstances, such as mental illness, or explore theories like a botched murder-suicide plot.

Harrison is scheduled to appear in court on November 3. The governor's office and the Monroe County District Attorney's Office were contacted for comment.
