A Pennsylvania mother tearfully stated she was "sorry" her son "took a life" as she was led by state troopers to a police vehicle, shackled and barefoot. Rachel Moser faces charges including hindering apprehension, tampering with evidence, abuse of a corpse, and obstruction in connection with the death of her son's girlfriend, 18-year-old Karoline Heintz.

Heintz, an incoming freshman and standout player on the Pennsylvania Western University women's soccer team, was found deceased in the back hatch of her Jeep Cherokee on Thursday. Authorities reported that Royce Moser, 18, allegedly placed Heintz's body in the vehicle after stabbing her to death. He then drove to his mother's home in Beallsville seeking assistance.

According to investigators, Rachel Moser and her son attempted to clean the car and clothing to remove any bloodstains before driving the vehicle to California Borough, with Rachel Moser following in another car. Both mother and son were arrested on Thursday morning.

Royce Moser reportedly told his mother that a "demon took over" him and instructed him to stab Heintz. He has been charged with homicide. Rachel Moser remains in custody, facing charges for her alleged role in covering up the crime.
