Pennsylvania Mom Drained Husband's 401(k) for Resort Trip Before Alleged Murders, Stepmother Claims

A Pennsylvania mother accused of fatally stabbing her husband and their 3-year-old son at a Great Wolf Lodge had withdrawn her husband's 401(k) funds to pay for the vacation, according to her stepmother. The stepmother believes the incident was premeditated.

Metallica Rose Harrison, 27, allegedly used her husband Charles' retirement account to finance a three-week trip to the Pocono Mountains resort. The trip was intended as an early Christmas present for their son, Tristan, and also covered expenses for a kitchen remodel, according to stepmother April Thetga.

Thetga described the financial decision as unusual, stating that the family found it odd that the 401(k) had been depleted, though she was unsure if it was a withdrawal or a loan.

Despite the financial anomaly, relatives had no indication of impending violence. Thetga reported a cheerful video call with Harrison the day before the alleged murders, during which Harrison expressed her love for her family.

The following day, police responded to a 911 call from Harrison, who requested assistance in ending her own life. Upon arrival, officers discovered Charles Harrison and Tristan dead from multiple stab wounds. Harrison herself was found to have attempted suicide.

According to an affidavit obtained by WNEP, Harrison later told authorities and paramedics that she had dreamed of a "happy family" and wished to join her husband and son in death.

Prior to the incident, Harrison had shared seemingly happy family photos from past vacations on social media. Relatives described Charles Harrison as a devoted husband and father who rarely exhibited anger. Thetga expressed shock and confusion, stating that the family appeared loving and happy, and that they are seeking answers.
